Thanks everyone for coming out to the show at the Hideout Coffee House, celebrating Art, Art Therapy, and Artists. Hope we can do it again next year! Thanks to all the South Texas Art Therapy members who worked hard to make this happen.

Discovery: The Art of Art Therapy

Posted on: January 10th, 2012

Hi Friends,
Be sure to join us for “Discovery: The Art of Art Therapy.”
Pictured below is my contribution to the show, “Yes, No, Maybe”, a mixed media piece on birch panel. BDJ Craftworks (AKA my awesome brother, Brian) gilded it with a fabulous walnut frame post photo. Oh the advantages of a woodworking sibling. Thanks Brother!

All of the works, now hanging at The Hideout Coffee House, at 617 Congress, are from Art Therapists. The show is sponsored by the infamous South Texas Art Therapy Association. Please find time to come to the opening celebration on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. It should be fun and one way to support art and creativity in your community.
Be Well,
Laura

National Adoption Month

Posted on: November 29th, 2011

November is National Adoption Month and I wanted to take time before its over to raise a little awareness about foster care adoption and children in substitute care. I read recently that there are 138 foster children in Travis County who are available for adoption. Did you know that adoption within the Texas foster care system is essentially free? Did you know that those children who are not adopted grow up and leave foster care without a family to come home to? Having placed several children, both babies and teens, into adoptive foster homes I know the difference permanency and a real family can mean to all these children over the long term.

Even if you can’t adopt there are ways to help children in care. The Adoption Coalition of Texas, a worthy organization is looking for Secret Santa’s for foster children in central Texas. If you or your family want to give a child in foster care a better Christmas, email the coalition at ACTSecretSantaATgmail.com to learn about a child’s wish list. Drop off days begin December 7th to 10th. Make a difference in the life of child! Happy Holidays,
Be well,
Laura
