Hope Filled Art Postcard Exchange, 6 Degrees of Creativity

Posted on: September 26th, 2016

Postcards! 6 Degrees of Creativity does wonderful work around art therapy, creativity and well… fun art exchanges. I signed up for their Hope Filled Art Postcard Exchange in August. I am sending three postcards out and will receive three from others. These  three are going to Canada, Ohio and Texas. I am looking forward to what gets mailed to me at the studio.

My postcard art has themes of hope for me that include love, the sun, and a tree. I stamped each one on the back with the postcard stamp that belonged to my mother.  We lost her way too soon to cancer when she was only 59. She was a force that inspired me, my family and gave me hope. Here is to more creativity and future exchanges.

Cloud Tree Studios and Gallery

Posted on: July 4th, 2016

In March I relocated the art therapy portion of my practice to Cloud Tree Studios and Gallery in east Austin. More on that later! This past month I have been working on a new series of birds in mixed media on paper.

Having been an active bird watcher over 15 years, coupled with my interest in migrating warblers (many trips to High Island, Texas over the years), this seems to be the next natural progression  for a series of paintings. I am preparing a collection for the East Austin Studio Tour in November along with a limited number prints that will be available.

The Blackburnian Warbler is one of my favorites.  In April of 2004  I saw my first one in the willows at Anahuac National Wilflife Refuge in a rainstorm. I saw another in April of 2006 on the cul-de-sac near my South Austin home. They love pecan tree tassles when coming through Austin and especially after being grounded in an overnight rainstorm. The Blackburnian nests in mixed coniferous woods  in the eastern parts of the United States, where many warblers raise young in the spring. Happy Painting and Birding Yall. Be Well!

Creative Arts Therapies Week March 13-19, 2016

It’s Creative Art Therapies Week! Let’s celebrate all the creative arts have to offer in healing both mind and body.

Here is a photo of what I did in a bookmaking workshop, “Creativity and Content in Making Books” in NYC at the Expressive Therapies Summit last November with Linney Wix Ph.D. Linney is a professor in the Art Education Department at the University of New Mexico and I have admired what she does with bookmaking for years. I enjoyed our day long adventure with her, where we were lucky enough to spend the day at Pratt’s campus in Brooklyn. Look for me to expand on this work in the coming year through my art therapy practice, at Cloud Tree Studios and Gallery.

I am opening a primary Art Therapy Studio in east Austin at Cloud Tree. I have had a life long vision of a studio location in addition to the traditional counseling and psychotherapy setting where I have worked for several years. More to come soon on the new space. For now, enjoy, relax and welcome Spring. Go Make Art!
